Govanhill is one of the 12 neighbourhoods in South East Glasgow. It has an estimated population of 15,000 although the increase in migrant workers to the area is unlikely to be accurately reflected in the registered demographic data available.

It is estimated that over 40% of the population are from a minority ethnic origin. 27% of the Govanhill Housing Association's housing stock is let to people from a Black or Minority Ethnic (BME) background, with higher concentrations of the BME population residing in the unimproved, privately rented or owner occupied sectors of housing in the area.
