If the Housing Association promotes the physical regeneration of the area, the Community Development Trust is involved in the social and economic regeneration.
A recent study by the Scottish Council Foundation identified Govanhill as an area in decline with little being done to arrest that decline. The Trust will work with partner agencies and local residents to halt that decline and, in the long run, improve the local community.
The Trust has three strategic objectives:
- To provide a lead and a focus for local regeneration activity.
- To empower local people to play a significant role in regenerating their community.
- To help improve the quality of life for people living and working in Govanhill.
