To
empower local people to play a significant role in regenerating their
community
We
have undertaken work in a number of different areas towards achieving
this objective.
Govanhill
Residents Group
We
have established and now work with Govanhill Residents Group to enable
local people to have a greater influence in efforts to improve the
area.
The
group is leading a bid, with Govanhill Youth Project, to floodlight
the football pitch and basketball pitch in Govanhill Park. They also
helped to organise Govanhill Health Day, with local organisations
such as Greater Glasgow Health Board, South East Area Lifestyle, the
Local Healthcare Cooperative and the Starting Well Project. Held in
Daisy St Neighbourhood Centre and attended by 100 people, the event
promoted awareness of health issues and helped inform the development
of a Govanhill Health Strategy.
Govanhill
Festival
With
Govanhill Housing Association we organise the annual festival in Govanhill
Park. The 2003 festival featured the launch of Glasgow City Council's
Children's Play in the Park programme, held over the school holidays.
Community
Development Work Course
The
Trust, with partners South East Area Lifestyle and Taleem Trust, supported
12 local people in completing a Community Development course run by
Glasgow University. Now they can progress to the first year of the
degree course in community development.
