The
Association's work in regenerating the Govanhill area requires commitment
from other partners who share our objectives. The significant capital
funding required to progress our Development work is sought on a
variety of geographical scales. In the main, Communities Scotland
provides grant subsidy on an annual basis to support our programme
of works.
Glasgow
City Council provides Improvement Grant funding to private owners
who are participating on a voluntary basis within the tenement rehabilitation
programme, although the level of funding for this type of work has
reduced considerably over recent years (see Better
Living, Better Lives campaign).
The
Association is also required to obtain an element of private finance
associated with our housing projects. The Dunfermline Building Society
and Bank of Scotland have, to date, provided the required finance
following competitive tendering procedures.
Bids
for challenge funding and Government initiatives are made if we
consider this will augment our mainstream regeneration work.
An
award of £870,000 from the Scottish Executive under the Empty
Homes Initiative has enabled up to 30 vacant flats in the area to
be brought back into use for social rented accommodation.
We
have also obtained funding from other sources dependent on the type
of projects being developed. The provision of the two workspace
developments by Govanhill Community Development Trust saw funding
contributions from the European Regional Development Fund and Scottish
Enterprise Glasgow who also funded the regeneration of Govanhill
Park in partnership with Glasgow City Council.
