The
Association undertakes its 'Developer' role within its geographical
area of operation, defined as the area bounded by Aikenhead
Road, Dixon Road, Dixon Avenue, Victoria Road and the railway lines
to the north of Butterbiggins Road, Glasgow G42.
The
type of development activity undertaken is not just primarily to
regenerate the physical fabric of the area but also to meet the
identified housing needs of the community.
To
this end, the Association has been developing projects which provide
more family accommodation, allowing such households to remain in
the community and reinforce extended family networks.
Whether
it be tenement rehabilitation, newbuild housing or converting existing
buildings, the quality of the end-product is a prime objective.
The Association designs its new accommodation to recognised standards
such as 'Housing for Varying Needs' which includes specifications
and products that enable all sections of the community, young and
old, to live in our houses more easily.
Energy
Efficiency and Sustainability have also become key performance targets
in the way our houses are produced and eventually used by the people
who live in them.
Safety
and security is another important aspect of the design process and
accreditation is sought from Strathclyde Police's 'Secured by Design'.
The
Development function of the Association is monitored and assessed
against performance targets and indicators by Communities Scotland,
the regulatory body of all registered social landlords. The Association
has been awarded a Grade 'A' performance mark for the way it undertakes
its development work.
