Housing & Factoring Services

Govanhill Housing Association operates in a multi-cultural area and aims to provide good quality rented accommodation to those in greatest housing need.  This is subject to the number and type of houses that it has available at any one time.

It is difficult to predict how many houses will become available for let as we are depending on tenants moving within the area and houses being given up for various reasons. We generally have a turn-over of between 160 and 200 houses each year and we had 169 vacancies during 2005/06. We have had 90 vacancies between 1 April and 30 September 2006 and this means that we could have 180 vacancies during 2006/07.

The majority of our stock is one and two bedroom tenement flats and these are the sizes and types of houses that are most likely to become vacant in any year. We do occasionally have vacancies in our larger flats and terraced houses (3, 4 and 5, or more, bedrooms) but, as you would expect, these houses are in very high demand as we have much fewer of them and they don’t become available often.

We have some properties that are readily available and you should contact our Housing Services staff at Samaritan House.  (See details of our four operational teams for contact details).

The Association allocates all its houses and flats by way of its needs- based Allocations Policy and a degree of emphasis is placed on meeting local housing need.

A number of factors are taken into account when considering an applicant's housing need such as:

  • Lack of Amenities
  • Sharing of Amenities
  • Overcrowding/Under-occupation
  • Medical/Social Factors & Disability
  • Poor Condition of Property
  • Insecure Occupancy

A combined points and target system exists to ensure that no applicant group is given undue priority in the letting of our housing stock. All applicants are assessed on the same measures of need irrespective of the source of application.

Our housing lists are open to anyone with legal status to residence in the United Kingdom from the age of sixteen years of age.

Govanhill Housing Association complies fully and operates within the boundaries of all relevant Equal Opportunities and Race Equality Legislation and Codes of Practice in its allocation's processes.

We also seek to enable persons to move from one area to another through our participation in the Housing Mobility and Exchange Services (H.O.M.E.S.)

If you would like to receive an application form for housing please contact Housing Services at checkin@govanhillha.org
